In the early hours of Tuesday morning, the Colombian international arrived in Munich. Only the standard medical examination and the signing of his contract separate the 28-year-old attacking player from being officially presented as a new member of FC Bayern Munich.
The transfer of Díaz, who is currently still under contract with Liverpool FC, is expected to cost Bayern a total amount of up to €75 million. According to consistent reports, the guaranteed transfer fee is around €67.5 million, which could increase to a total of €75 million through performance-related bonus payments. This would make Díaz the third most expensive player in the club’s history—behind Harry Kane (around €100 million) and Lucas Hernández (around €80 million).
Arrival from Tokyo – Díaz Taken Directly to Medical Check
Díaz traveled on flight NH217 operated by the Japanese airline All Nippon Airways, arriving from Tokyo and landing at Munich Airport at approximately 6:35 a.m. He had previously been in Tokyo with Liverpool FC as part of the club’s preseason tour of Asia. Immediately upon landing, the forward was greeted on the tarmac by Bayern team manager Sonny Scherer and driven in a black limousine to the city center, where preparations for the medical portion of his transfer were already underway.
The Colombian is expected to sign a four-year contract with FC Bayern and will reportedly earn an annual salary of around €14 million. The contract signing is anticipated to take place later in the day. Other Bayern players are also undergoing routine sports medical examinations on Tuesday, before preseason training officially begins this week under new head coach Vincent Kompany.
Díaz Signing Responds to Squad Changes in Bayern’s Offense
The acquisition of Luis Díaz is a direct response to the current personnel changes in FC Bayern’s attacking lineup. Following the departures of players such as Leroy Sané and Thomas Müller, and with Jamal Musiala expected to be out for an extended period due to injury, Díaz is intended to play a central role in the club’s newly structured offensive strategy.
Negotiations with Liverpool FC had stretched over several weeks, but were successfully concluded in time for the start of Bayern’s preseason preparations. Díaz could potentially make his debut in a Bayern jersey as early as this coming Saturday in a friendly match against Olympique Lyon at the Allianz Arena.
