The announcement was made official on Wednesday by Bavaria’s Finance Minister Albert Füracker (Christian Social Union). Möller has led the world-famous tavern since 1999, playing a key role in shaping its long-term development.
New Director Brings Brewery Experience: Jörg Lehmann Takes Over
Möller’s successor will be Jörg Lehmann, who previously served as the spokesperson of the board of Kulmbacher Brauerei. According to the press release, Lehmann brings extensive industry experience and the expertise required to manage this globally recognized hospitality institution. Lehmann was quoted as saying: “The Hofbräuhaus in Munich is the most famous tavern in the world – with branches on three continents.” He is thus taking over not just a cultural landmark, but also an international symbol of Bavarian lifestyle.
The Hofbräuhaus – More Than Just a Tavern
The Hofbräuhaus am Platzl is one of Germany’s most iconic tourist destinations, attracting millions of visitors from both Germany and abroad each year. The Hofbräu tent at Oktoberfest also enjoys enormous popularity, especially among international guests. In addition to its main location in Munich, the enterprise also operates an international franchise: a branch of the Hofbräuhaus in Las Vegas, which has become firmly established there.
State-Owned Brewery with a Long Tradition
The Hofbräuhaus was founded in 1589 by Duke Wilhelm V. Alongside the Weihenstephan brewery, it is one of only two breweries owned by the Free State of Bavaria. Despite its global recognition, the Hofbräuhaus ranks among the smaller breweries in Germany in terms of production volume.
In 2024, the company sold 353,278 hectoliters of beer and generated revenue of approximately 57 million euros. These economic figures highlight the Hofbräuhaus’s strong and stable market position, even in challenging times.
With the upcoming leadership transition, an era comes to an end. Jörg Lehmann will take over a house steeped in history – and a powerful brand that continues to stand for Bavarian hospitality, comfort, and beer culture across the globe.
