The construction, expected to cost approximately €30 million, will significantly impact traffic flow in the area over a period of three years.
Safety Net to Prevent Falling Concrete Debris
Due to the deteriorating condition of the current bridge structure, a protective safety net will soon be installed beneath it to prevent potentially loose concrete from falling onto the heavily trafficked A99 below. According to the municipality of Grasbrunn, traffic on the B304 will remain unaffected for the time being.
Key Transportation Route in Munich’s Eastern Corridor Affected
The B304 is one of the most vital traffic arteries in the eastern metropolitan region of Munich. It connects the districts of Ebersberg and Munich to the Bavarian capital, and carries a particularly high volume of commuter traffic. The planned construction is therefore expected to have far-reaching effects on local and regional mobility.
Construction Preparations to Begin in October 2025
Initial preparatory work is set to begin in October 2025. These early stages will include clearing vegetation and relocating utility lines. During the winter months of 2025–26, work will begin on building a temporary bypass bridge south of the existing overpass.
Demolition of Existing Bridge Scheduled for Autumn 2026
Once the provisional bridge is operational, demolition of the current, structurally compromised bridge can proceed. The demolition is planned for autumn 2026. To ensure safety during this phase, the A99 will need to be completely closed at night on multiple occasions. Traffic management strategies will be implemented to minimize disruption as much as possible.
Cyclists Also Affected by Construction
During the construction of the temporary bridge, the bike path running parallel to the B304 will also have to be closed. The municipality of Grasbrunn, Autobahn GmbH, and DB InfraGO are currently working on a safe and accessible detour for cyclists.
Traffic Disruptions to Continue Until Completion in 2028
The entire project, from the beginning of preparatory work to the completion of the new bridge, is projected to last until 2028. Throughout this period, residents and commuters in eastern Munich should prepare for significant delays and detours. The construction will affect two of the region’s most heavily used transportation routes: the B304 and the A99.
