Munich – Corpus Christi is widely celebrated in Bavaria on Thursday. On this Catholic feast day, known as the “Solemnity of the Body and Blood of Christ,” the real presence of Jesus in bread and wine is commemorated.
In Munich’s city center, following a church service led by Cardinal Marx on Marienplatz, a ceremonial procession will take place to Ludwigskirche and then return. This event will result in restrictions in public transport, particularly affecting bus traffic.
Corpus Christi Procession Causes Temporary Changes to Bus Routes in Munich
According to MVG, between 5:00 a.m. and approximately 3:00 p.m. on Thursday, road closures and detours will affect bus services along Ludwigstraße and around Odeonsplatz. If weather conditions prevent the procession from taking place, the planned changes will also be canceled.
The following adjustments have been scheduled:
Bus Lines 58 and 68: Both lines will be rerouted between Giselastraße and Pinakotheken. The stops at Georgenstraße, Siegestor, Universität, Amalienstraße, Maxvorstadt/Sammlung Brandhorst, Von-der-Tann-Straße, and Oskar-von-Miller-Ring will be suspended. In the direction of Ostbahnhof, the Pinakotheken stop will be relocated to the tram stop for lines 27 (towards Petuelring) and 28 (towards Scheidplatz) at the corner of Barer Straße and Theresienstraße.
- Bus Line 100: This line will be diverted through the Altstadtringtunnel from approximately 8:00 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. As a result, the stops at Königinstraße and Oskar-von-Miller-Ring (each towards Ostbahnhof), Amalienstraße (towards Hauptbahnhof), as well as Von-der-Tann-Straße and Odeonsplatz in both directions will be canceled.
- Bus Line 153: On Corpus Christi, this line will operate only on a shortened route between Nordbad, Josephsplatz, and Schellingstraße. The stops at Türkenstraße, Universität, Von-der-Tann-Straße, and Odeonsplatz in both directions will not be served. The Schellingstraße stop towards Josephsplatz will be moved to the tram stop for lines 27 and 28 (each towards Sendlinger Tor) on Barer Straße.
- Bus Line 154: This line will be rerouted between Giselastraße and Schellingstraße. Therefore, the stops at Georgenstraße, Siegestor, Universität, and Türkenstraße in both directions will be canceled. Similarly, the Schellingstraße stop towards Josephsplatz – Nordbad will be relocated to the tram stop for lines 27 and 28 on Barer Straße.
Passengers are advised to check route information in advance and plan extra travel time during the affected period.
