Munich – For the past few weeks, a new sales stand operated by a bakery chain has stood on the forecourt of Pasing Station. However, the Pasing-Obermenzing district committee sees this addition as problematic. During its most recent meeting, the CSU faction submitted an urgent motion demanding the “immediate removal of the sales stand.” Other members of the district committee supported the motion as well.
Sales Stand Blocks View of the Taxi Rank
The CSU justified the urgency of its request by stating that the sales stand interrupted the so-called guidance path for the visually impaired, as faction spokesperson Sven Wackermann explained. Furthermore, the forecourt at Pasing Station is heavily frequented, which means special consideration must be given to the needs of pedestrians in its design. The new sales stand obstructs the direct view of the taxi rank on Bäckerstraße, leading to confusion among travelers unfamiliar with the area, who reportedly have difficulty finding the taxi rank and wander around the square disoriented.
Resident Calls for Direction Signs
The public has also raised concerns. A local resident recently contacted the district committee to request a clearly visible sign indicating the route to the taxi rank. The committee members considered this a reasonable interim solution, at least until the sales stand is removed.
Resolution Passed Urging the City to Demand Removal
The district committee subsequently resolved unanimously to call on the City of Munich to urge Deutsche Bahn to immediately dismantle the sales stand located on the eastern side of the main entrance to Pasing Station. The committee also emphasized that the monument preservation authority should be involved in the decision, as the stand “significantly disrupts the visual axis to the historic station building.” In addition, escape routes and spaces designated for fire service operations are to be inspected. Regarding the disruption of the guidance path for the visually impaired, the city’s commissioner for the disabled must also be consulted.
