Königsplatz to Host Wine Tasting and Open-Air Film Screenings

In Munich, Königsplatz will host more than just its traditional open-air film festival this July. On Thursday and Friday, July 9 and 10, the "Wine is in the Air" wine festival will also take place at the same venue.

Guests will be able to meet winemakers, sample various wine varieties, and stay for a film screening in the evening.

Wine as Part of the Film Program

The “Wine is in the Air” festival is conceived not as a standalone wine event, but as a daytime program preceding the “Kinoliebe Summer Festival” screenings. During the day, guests can look forward to tastings and meetings with winemakers, and in the evening, films on the big screen with friends. The organizers have also arranged musical accompaniment, live podcasts, and food trucks.

Young Winemakers Instead of Traditional Brands

The organizers have bet on young winemakers and modern approaches to wine production, opting out of involving estates that have long been established on the market. Among the participants is the Frankfurt-based wine shop GipsyWines, which specializes in wines from small private estates. Winemaker Juliane Eller, who took over her family estate at the age of 23, will also present her products at the festival.

Ticket prices for the tasting are divided into several categories:

  • Festival-Ticket – 8 euros, includes admission and a festival glass;
  • Tasting-Ticket – 15 euros, includes admission, a glass, and three wine samples;
  • Wine-Date-Ticket for two – 28 euros, includes admission, two glasses, and three wine samples each.

Film Screenings After the Tasting

Guests who wish to stay after the tasting can transition to the evening program of the Kinoliebe festival. On Thursday, July 9, at 21:30, the open-air premiere of the film “Ein Münchner im Himmel” will take place. On Friday, July 10, at the same time, the Michael Jackson biopic “Michael” will be screened.

The festival grounds are located on Königsplatz, between the Glyptothek and the State Collection of Antiquities. The most convenient way to get there is by underground—via the U2 line to the “Königsplatz” station. The wine portion of the program begins at 15:00 and continues until 20:30, approximately one hour before the film screenings start.
