Munich Airport — Making a short stop by the terminal complex to watch airplanes has been a pleasant option for a brief outing for many residents of the region. This opportunity, of course, still remains; however, visitors have now been deprived of one familiar spot. Those who found climbing up to the observation platforms too tiring or difficult (especially with young children), as well as individuals wishing to take special photographs of aircraft, used to briefly stop in small pockets along the runway. Now, access there is closed, as confirmed by an airport spokesperson: “The safety of our guests and employees is always our top priority.”
Reason for Closing the Popular Viewing Spots
The parking pockets were enclosed with traffic barriers in order to ensure road safety. “Although these niches exist, the minimal distance to heavy traffic roads creates a risk of accident situations, primarily for families with children. Even if alternative routes seem longer in places, a trip to the two observation hills, the visitor hill, or the Terminal 2 observation terrace will be safer and yet offer equally fascinating views of taking off and landing airplanes.”
According to the press service, there was no specific incident prompting these measures. “The operating company regularly reviews safety measures on the territory of the aviation hub, including in close cooperation with government authorities.”
