Passengers of public transport are entitled to compensation for delays

Passengers of public transport have a right to compensation. In the event of a delay of 60 minutes or more, the transport company is obliged to return a portion of the fare.

Munich β€” everyone who uses public transport is certainly entitled to safe and timely transportation. Stopping points must be accessible. Passengers must be provided with schedule information or notifications about delays. In the event of disruptions or cancellations, the right to alternative transportation or a fare refund often arises. Starting from a 60-minute delay, compensation of 25 percent of the paid ticket price is due, and for a delay of two hours or more, 50 percent is returned.

If a passenger is found on a bus or train without a valid ticket, an increased fare is charged, which currently stands at 60 euros. In the event that a season ticket was forgotten at home and this was discovered during a check, it can be presented later, for example, at a service center of the relevant transport company. In Munich, this can be done at Marienplatz, the Central Station, or Pasing Station. However, this rule only applies if the ticket is issued in your nameβ€”that is, it is not transferable.

Passengers are also obliged to follow the instructions of personnel and present a travel document upon request. A number of other rules must also be observed: for example, it is forbidden to block seats or exits with your own luggage, as well as to leave trash. If problems arise, a conciliation commission for local transport matters can assist.
