Travelers heading home by car are being urged to brace for delays.
High Return Traffic Expected Over the Weekend
With school holidays ending in several regions, including Bavaria, many families are expected to return from their spring vacations between April 25 and 27. Although some holidaymakers are flying home, a significant number are expected to take to the roads, leading to increased congestion across key routes.
According to the latest traffic forecast from the ADAC, road users should expect congestion not only in Bavaria, but also in Baden-Württemberg, Saxony, Brandenburg, and other federal states where Easter break is ending.
“The overall situation should remain manageable,” stated the ADAC, “but drivers should anticipate slower traffic on certain routes.” The return traffic typically poses less of a burden than the initial holiday rush or the peak Easter weekend, but road conditions may still be challenging.
Friday and Saturday Afternoons Likely to Be Most Affected
The ADAC anticipates the worst congestion on Friday and Saturday afternoons. With over 1,000 construction zones currently in place across Germany, roadwork could further slow traffic. Drivers are advised to check for current roadworks and detours before setting off.
Traffic Hotspots Identified Around Munich
The ADAC has pinpointed several motorways near Munich that are particularly prone to congestion this weekend. These include:
- A8: from Salzburg through Munich to Stuttgart and Karlsruhe
- A9: running from Munich via Nuremberg to Leipzig/Halle
- A94: connecting Munich and Passau
- A95/B2: heading from Munich to Garmisch-Partenkirchen
- A99: the Munich motorway ring
These routes are expected to see significant delays in both directions as holidaymakers return home.
Traffic Concerns Extend Beyond Bavaria
Drivers traveling beyond Bavaria should also remain alert. In Austria, disruptions are expected on major motorways such as the Brenner, Inntal, and Tauern routes.
With the return from Easter holidays underway, authorities recommend planning extra time for travel and staying up to date with real-time traffic updates to avoid the worst delays.
