Christmas Tram Returns to the Streets of Central Munich

It's not just the Christmas markets creating a festive atmosphere in Munich; a special initiative from the city's transport company, MVG, is also spreading holiday cheer with a dedicated Christmas tram.

Rides on the festively decorated tram began on Friday, November 28th. The Munich Transport Company (MVG) is once again offering trips on the so-called “Christmas Tram” this year. It will run through central Munich on Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays until December 21st.

Onboard, passengers can enjoy mulled wine, non-alcoholic children’s punch, and gingerbread during the 30-minute city tour. The route starts at Sendlinger Tor. From there, the tram proceeds via the Isartor and Maxmonument stops, travels along Maximilianstrasse past the National Museum, and then returns to Sendlinger Tor via Stachus.

Ticket Sales Limited Due to High Demand

Boarding and disembarking are only possible at the special “Brunnenschleife” stop at Sendlinger Tor. Due to high demand, MVG asks those wishing to ride the Christmas tram from Friday onwards to book their tickets starting from the prior Thursday, November 27th. Tickets must be collected no later than 15 minutes before departure. Payment can be made in cash on-site. A maximum of five tickets can be purchased per adult.

Exclusive Rides for Groups on a Special Route

The Christmas tram runs at 45-minute intervals: on Fridays from 3:30 PM to 7:15 PM, and on weekends from 11:00 AM to 7:15 PM.

A ride on the festive tram costs five euros for adults. Children aged six to 14 pay three euros. Children under six can ride for free. Those who want to rent the tram for a private event can book an exclusive ride from 8:30 PM to 10:00 PM. For these bookings, the Christmas tram follows a special route through the city, and catering can also be ordered.
