Munich Ranks Among Germany’s Top Three Cities for Coffee Lovers

Coffee is one of the most popular beverages in Germany, enjoyed in a vast number of ways. In Munich, coffee enthusiasts find their preferences fully satisfied.

Melange, latte macchiato, or a classic black brew: coffee tastes are fundamentally diverse. Today, this caffeinated hot drink is available in countless variations. While some prefer to visit global chains like Starbucks, others opt for the charm of a cozy local coffee shop. A recent analysis by coffeeness.de has identified the German cities that offer the best opportunities to enjoy a great cup of coffee, with Munich securing a top spot in the ranking.

The Best Cities for Coffee Aficionados: Munich Breaks into Germany’s Top 3

For its analysis, Coffeeness examined the 80 largest German cities, evaluating them based on the quality of their coffee experience. The assessment categories included: the availability and quality of coffee, the average price of a coffee in cafés, as well as the local coffee culture and general interest in the beverage. Cities could score a maximum of 100 points.

According to the evaluation, Berlin was named the best city for coffee lovers. The capital scored 54.52 out of 100 points, earning praise for its diversity and well-developed coffee culture.

Frankfurt, a major city in Hesse, took second place. This financial metropolis scored 44.52 points, though it was also noted as having some of the most expensive coffee prices. Third place went to Munich. The Bavarian capital scored 41.24 out of 100 points and, according to Coffeeness, successfully blends a traditional coffee house culture with the modern specialty coffee movement.

“In Munich, you can find both historic coffee houses with plush armchairs and newspaper holders, as well as minimalist cafés featuring Chemex and V60 brewers,” noted the coffee experts. Overall, Munich delivered solid results across all categories. The city was also highly rated for its very large number of patisseries and bakeries.
