Police Open Fire During Knife Attack in Landshut Apartment

On Monday afternoon, police officers discharged a service weapon during an operation at an apartment in Landshut.

According to the Lower Bavaria Police Headquarters, a woman had reported to police that her 30-year-old son was unlawfully in her apartment and was in a psychological crisis, behaving aggressively.

Knife Attack on Police Officers: Three Officers Injured

When officers located the man in the apartment around 2:00 PM, the 30-year-old attacked the police with a knife. This led to an officer firing their service weapon. Based on current information, a single shot was fired, police reported. The man was seriously injured in the upper body as a result and is hospitalized.

According to the report, the two police officers were injured by the knife during the attack. The 30-year-old then allegedly retreated back into the apartment. Police therefore requested additional forces before the man could be arrested.

One other policewoman was also injured during the operation. She and her injured colleagues were taken to the hospital. The officers involved, as well as the relatives of the 30-year-old man, are being supported by specially trained police personnel.

Investigation Launched for Suspected Attempted Homicide and Police Shooting

The public prosecutor’s office and the criminal investigation department are now investigating on suspicion of attempted homicide. Regarding the police shooting – as is standard procedure in such cases – the State Criminal Police Office has been called in to lead that part of the investigation.
