Major Maintenance Work on the City’s Main Transit Corridor
As part of regularly scheduled infrastructure upkeep, the S-Bahn’s core route through Munich will again undergo a full closure to allow for intensive technical inspections and repairs. Tasks include servicing switches, rails, and platform areas. This will result in significant changes to the train schedule and a complete suspension of service along the trunk line.
No S-Bahn Service on Central Line Over the Weekend
Train traffic on the trunk line will come to a halt from 10:30 p.m. on Friday until early Monday morning. Passengers heading to Munich Airport can use the S1 line, which will run between Freising or the airport and the main train station. However, it will skip all stops between Moosach and the central station. In some cases, S1 trains may begin or end in Moosach.
The second airport line, S8, will be diverted via the southern rail ring during the closure. The S7 line is the only one that will continue on its usual route between Wolfratshausen and Munich Central Station, although it will follow a modified nighttime schedule.
Replacement Bus Service Between Pasing and Central Station
To bridge the gap between Pasing and the central station, a replacement bus service will operate every ten minutes, stopping at all intermediate stations. Passengers looking for a faster alternative can use the S6 or select regional trains, which will travel this stretch without intermediate stops.
Visitors to Munich’s Spring Festival at Theresienwiese will also benefit from an extension of the U4 subway line. At the request of S-Bahn Munich, the Munich Transport Corporation (MVG) will run the U4 to Westendstraße during the day to improve access to the festival grounds.
Support and Guidance for Passengers at Key Locations
To help passengers navigate the changes, prominent information pillars will be placed at affected stations, especially near temporary bus stops. These displays will provide updated route maps and guide passengers to detour and replacement services. Additional signage will direct people from train stations to nearby bus connections.
Moreover, staff will be on-site to assist with directions and provide answers to travelers’ questions throughout the maintenance period.
