Largest Travel and Leisure Fair Opens in Munich

Next week, Munich will host f.re.e, Bavaria's premier exhibition for travel and leisure.

Celebrating its 55th anniversary this year, the event will feature approximately 900 exhibitors from 50 countries across seven halls. “The world is represented here,” noted project manager Katrin Leideritz. From February 18 to 22, the fair will focus on core themes including tourism, camping, cycling, water sports, and outdoor activities.

Crete has been named this year’s partner region. While Greece was an obscure destination for many travelers 55 years ago, it has since evolved into one of the most sought-after holiday spots. According to Reinhard Pfeiffer, Managing Director of Messe München, Bavarians are particularly fond of the island: “An Upper Bavarian feels perfectly at home in the highlands of Crete.” Additionally, for 2026, f.re.e has established an “experience partnership” with the region of Upper Bavaria itself.

Visitors to the exhibition will have the chance to personally test various activities, such as a trial dive in a specialized pool. “We always strive to showcase the latest trends,” Pfeiffer explained. For this reason, hobbyhorsing has been included in the program for the first time. On a special interactive stage, both children and adults can try their hand at dressage exercises using a hobby horse.

Ticket holders will benefit from a “triple-header” of events. In addition to f.re.e, the exhibition grounds will host the IMOT International Motorcycle Exhibition (from February 20 to 22) and the Munich Auto Days. A single ticket allows entry to all three expositions on the corresponding days.

Tickets are available online at www.free-muenchen.de. The cost for Wednesday and Thursday is 14 euros, while the price for Friday through Sunday is 17 euros. If purchased on-site, prices increase to 17 and 20 euros, respectively. The exhibition is open daily from 10:00 AM to 6:00 PM.
