A96 Tunnel near Munich to Close Overnight for Maintenance on Two Consecutive Nights

Drivers in the southwest of Munich should prepare for nighttime traffic disruptions due to urgent maintenance work in the Gräfelfing Tunnel on the A96 motorway.

The Federal Motorway Authority, South Bavaria branch, announced that the tunnel would be fully closed in one direction on two consecutive nights, with clearly marked detours in place for both directions.

The closures will take place during the nights from Thursday, July 24, to Friday, July 25, and from Friday, July 25, to Saturday, July 26. Each closure will last from 8:00 p.m. until approximately 5:00 a.m. and will involve essential tunnel maintenance, structural inspections, and core drilling.

Because of the narrow lanes and limited space within the tunnel, the authority explained that the work could only be carried out under a full closure of the affected direction.

Traffic Diversions for Both Directions

Each night will see one direction of the A96 completely closed through the Gräfelfing Tunnel. Detour routes will be signposted as follows:

Direction Lindau (Thursday to Friday night): Traffic will be diverted from the Gräfelfing junction via the U8 emergency route to the Germering-Süd junction.

Direction Munich (Friday to Saturday night): The detour will begin at the Germering-Süd junction and follow the U63 route to the Gräfelfing junction. Additionally, the Freiham-Süd junction will be closed during this time. Access to the A96 will only be possible via the Freiham-Mitte junction on the A99.

The Federal Motorway Authority emphasized that all detours will be clearly marked on site.

Outdoor Work May Be Delayed Due to Weather

Since all work is being carried out outdoors, weather conditions may impact the schedule. Changes or postponements may occur on short notice. The authority has asked all road users for their understanding regarding the necessary measures and any resulting inconvenience.
