The municipality of Hallbergmoos has introduced parking spaces for older residents, designed to improve their mobility in public areas. Christiane Oldenburg-Balden, the official for Senior Citizens and Inclusion, expressed her delight at the implementation of her initiative.
The senior parking spaces are located immediately adjacent to the existing women’s parking spaces at the train station, thus providing older people with short walking distances to the platform for trains towards Munich. Additional designated spaces have been signposted at the sports park and at both cemeteries.
“Short walking distances are crucial for enabling older people to continue participating actively in community life,” emphasizes Oldenburg-Balden. The special signage aims to raise awareness for the needs of older fellow citizens. “We have an aging society, and many people have limited mobility without possessing a severely disabled pass,” explains the senior citizens officer.
Oldenburg-Balden thanked the municipal administration and her colleagues on the town council for their support of the project. The local public order office was responsible for installing the corresponding signage.
