SENDLING-WESTPARK – Previously, there was talk of a potential completion by 2026. The retail chain Lidl and the city-owned housing company Münchner Wohnen (formerly Gewofag) had agreed to jointly redevelop Lidl’s property in Sendling-Westpark into a residential and commercial complex. The plan was for a new, modern supermarket and more than 100 affordable apartments above it to be built on the site. However, this joint project will now not go ahead.
Joint Project Cannot Be Realized
Münchner Wohnen had been in negotiations with Lidl about jointly developing the project at Tübinger Straße 9 since July 2020. For this purpose, the companies signed a general partnership agreement and were negotiating subsequent agreements, as reported by Münchner Wohnen spokesperson Matthias Weber.
“Unfortunately, the economic viability of this joint project is currently unattainable,” Weber noted. Therefore, the parties jointly decided that it cannot be realized at this time. “We deeply regret this but still hope that such a joint project might be possible with modifications at a later time,” Weber added.
