The Ingolstadt Criminal Police estimate the total value of the forged bills at around 300,000 euros—in 50-euro denominations. The man has been in custody together with his partner since October.
The Ingolstadt Criminal Police and Public Prosecutor’s Office stated that a “major blow” had been struck against a counterfeiter who had continuously been professionalizing his craft. Three men from Ingolstadt, connected to the regional counterfeit money scene who obtained forged bills from the Wuppertal man, were convicted with the judgments becoming final in the autumn. The total sentences, handed down by the Ingolstadt Regional Court, range from two years and three months to three years and eleven months.
Superbly Equipped Printing Workshop
In Wuppertal, the criminal police conducted a raid on October 20. During this operation, they discovered a “superbly equipped printing workshop” in the main suspect’s apartment, containing 13 printers and forgeries with a nominal value of around 100,000 euros, as well as wallets.
Both individuals arrested at the time are now in custody in Bavaria. According to the criminal police, the man referred to himself as the “market leader in the German-speaking counterfeit money scene,” as reported at a press briefing on Tuesday morning.
Counterfeit Money Also Circulated in Regensburg, Augsburg, and Munich
Investigators tracked down the duo in the course of an investigation into four suspects who allegedly put approximately 31,000 euros in counterfeit money into circulation in Ingolstadt, Augsburg, Munich, and Regensburg.
