The City of Munich has announced that temporary path closures and detours will be necessary to ensure public safety during the work.
Tree Disease Forces Felling – Pedestrian Path to Be Temporarily Closed
According to city officials, tree removal will take place north of the “Landrichterstraße” bus stop (served by lines 145 and N75), where many ash trees have been infected by a fungus responsible for ash dieback. Since there is currently no cure or effective method of treatment, the affected trees must be removed to protect the public from falling branches or sudden tree collapses.
The measure was approved in coordination with the local district committee and the Lower Nature Conservation Authority. During the tree work, a popular pedestrian path connecting the Landrichterstraße bus stop to the Fasangarten S-Bahn station will be closed for one to two days. A clearly marked detour will be provided to guide pedestrians safely around the area.
Work Begins August 11 – Felled Trees to Remain in Forest as Habitat
Tree felling is scheduled to begin on Monday, August 11. The city emphasizes that the removed trees will remain in the forest to preserve the natural ecosystem. Leaving the dead wood behind helps maintain soil nutrients and provides important habitats for insects, fungi, and small mammals.
This is part of a broader tree management effort in eastern Munich. In recent years, ash trees have already been removed from other neighborhoods, including Obergiesing, Untergiesing, and the Herzogpark area in Bogenhausen, due to similar fungal infections.
