New Indoor Action Sports Hall Opens in Munich as National Model for Inclusion and Sustainability

A groundbreaking new indoor street sports center named “Casa” has officially opened in Munich-Pasing, setting a new standard for inclusive and weather-independent action sports facilities in Germany.

Spanning 1,000 square meters, the center offers year-round opportunities for skateboarders, BMX riders, scooter users, inline skaters, roller skaters, and wheelchair athletes alike.

Mayor Reiter Praised the Project as a Milestone for Urban Youth Sports

Munich’s Lord Mayor Dieter Reiter inaugurated the new facility, describing it as a significant addition to the city’s infrastructure for young people. “With this hall, we are creating a space that offers young people movement, connection, and an urban lifestyle,” he said during the opening ceremony. “This is not just about sport, but about community, creativity, and the joy of movement. I wish all visitors many great experiences—and of course, safe landings.”

Center Now Fully Operational Following Pilot Phase

Although a trial phase began in March, the building had remained partially incomplete due to remaining work on the façade and outdoor areas. With the official opening now complete, the Casa is fully accessible and operational for the public.

Historic Factory Transformed into a Modern, Sustainable Facility

The Casa was built within the preserved structure of the former Eggenfabrik, a listed industrial building. Dr.-Ing. Jeanne-Marie Ehbauer, head of the Department of Construction, called the project “forward-looking.” She highlighted that the transformation involved comprehensive energy-efficient upgrades, including the installation of a rooftop photovoltaic system. “We didn’t just repurpose the existing hall—we fundamentally modernized it in a sustainable way,” she explained. “This project represents a significant achievement in both planning and engineering, accomplished through strong collaboration.”

Creative Space Free from Competitive Pressure

Florian Kraus, Munich’s Commissioner for Sports, also praised the new venue. “With Casa, we are sending a strong message in support of a modern, youth-focused sports culture,” he said. “This is a place where young people can experiment, move freely, and express their creativity without the pressure to perform.”

Casa Honored for Energy Efficiency and Accessibility

The total construction cost reached approximately twelve million euros. The investment, however, has already yielded recognition. Casa recently received the prestigious “KlimaKulturKompetenz” award in the categories of energy efficiency, climate protection, and accessibility.

As a result, the new center represents more than just a sports venue—it is a pioneering space for inclusive participation, responsible construction, and innovative urban design. With the launch of Casa, Munich has introduced a dynamic and accessible meeting place for people of all ages and abilities.
