Track Construction Begins for Munich’s Tram West Tangent in Fürstenrieder Straße with First Services Planned for This Year

The first trams are expected to run along Fürstenrieder Straße in Munich later this year. Construction work on the new tram tracks has officially started.

Munich / Laim – As announced by Stadtwerke München (SWM) in a press release on Friday, the first section of the Tram West Tangent, stretching between Agnes-Bernauer-Straße and Ammerseestraße, is scheduled to begin operations by the end of the year.

“Even though only this initial segment will be opened at first, passengers in western Munich will already benefit from improved connections,” said SWM Managing Director Ingo Wortmann. This construction phase will create a direct link between Pasing, western Laim, and Kleinhadern to Laimer Platz by connecting tram lines 18 and 19.

Work on the track construction in Fürstenrieder Straße has now commenced. “Some of the rails have already arrived on site, and next week we will begin concrete work,” reported Alex Indra, major project manager at SWM.

Since June 2, track curves and a track crossing have been installed at the intersection of Fürstenrieder Straße and Agnes-Bernauer-Straße.

Similar work had already been carried out last year at the intersection of Fürstenrieder Straße and Ammerseestraße, where track curves and a crossing were also installed. According to SWM, the current construction will now connect these two key junctions.
