According to police information, the victim was a young tourist who passed away in hospital several days after the accident. It appeared that the 20-year-old had tried to smoke a cigarette on the hotel roof during the night.
Fatal Accident in Aschheim as Glass Dome Collapses Under the Weight of Tourist
Police stated that the man was part of a student music group from the United States that was on a European tour. In the early morning hours of June 14, he reportedly climbed out of his hotel room window onto the building’s canopy roof.
The man then sat on a glass dome built into the roof structure. The glass was unable to bear his weight, broke suddenly, and the 20-year-old fell about four meters onto the stone floor of the hotel lobby below. He lay unconscious at the scene.
Eyewitnesses to the accident immediately alerted emergency services. Firefighters and police arrived at the scene shortly afterward. The severely injured man, who had suffered massive head and spinal injuries, was treated by an emergency physician and quickly transported to a hospital.

However, according to the current status of the investigation, no evidence of foul play was found. Further inquiries are being conducted by Department 13.
