UV radiation levels are expected to rise sharply across the region, reaching values that will require careful sun protection. In addition, sky watchers may be treated to rare celestial displays.
On Saturday, the sun is forecast to shine intensely throughout the day. Most of Bavaria will enjoy nearly cloudless skies until late afternoon, when thicker clouds are expected to move into southern and western parts of the region, bringing local showers and providing occasional shade. Overall, residents can expect more than 15 hours of sunshine, from about 5:15 a.m. until approximately 9:30 p.m.
UV Radiation to Reach High Levels on Saturday, Protection Strongly Advised
Air quality will also be better than in previous days, as significantly fewer dust and ash particles are present. The smoke plumes from Canadian wildfires have largely drifted toward Eastern Europe, and the anticipated Saharan dust from North Africa, often carried by hot and humid air masses, has not yet reached Bavaria.
As a result, the UV index on Saturday is expected to reach exceptionally high levels, ranging between levels 8 and 9 during the day. Peak values are likely around midday in southern and eastern Bavaria, and could even exceed 9 on Alpine peaks before thicker cloud cover arrives later. According to the World Health Organization (WHO), such values fall within the second-highest risk category, making effective sun protection essential.
To prevent health risks, people are advised to stay in the shade, especially during midday hours. Those who must be outdoors should use sunscreen with a high sun protection factor, wear protective clothing and a hat, and carefully apply sunscreen to all exposed skin areas.
Sunday to Bring Cooler Temperatures but Higher Risk of Thunderstorms
On Sunday, UV radiation levels are expected to gradually decrease. Cloud cover will increase over Bavaria throughout the day, bringing some relief from the heat. However, this will also raise the likelihood of heavy showers and thunderstorms in many parts of the region.
Possibility of Northern Lights Display Over Bavaria
The weekend weather in Bavaria holds further potential for extraordinary sights: overnight skies are expected to remain mostly clear. As the probability of seeing northern lights is slightly elevated, a late-night glance at the sky may prove rewarding. Residents in northern Bavaria could catch a glimpse of faint green or reddish glows.
Even without northern lights, nighttime skies promise to be remarkable. The waning and low-lying moon will accompany the late hours, and as the predicted thunderstorms move in from the west and southwest during the night to Sunday, flashes of lightning may illuminate the sky, offering a dramatic spectacle.
