The new feature applies to single tickets, day passes, and weekly and monthly passes. To access the service, users must have an M-Login account. The MVG has announced plans to expand the availability of these digital wallets to additional services within the app over the course of the year.
MVVswipe System Continues to Simplify Commuting
MVG’s rollout follows the success of MVVswipe, a check-in/check-out system introduced in late 2023. With MVVswipe, riders simply check in via the app when boarding and check out when exiting, with the fare calculated automatically. The system has helped simplify fare payment and increased the use of digital tickets.
While subscription products such as the Deutschlandticket or the €365 annual pass still require registration through the customer portal and can only be paid via SEPA direct debit, MVG intends to extend Apple Pay and Google Pay to those offerings by the end of 2025. Users of MVVswipe and the mobile parking service HandyParken are also expected to benefit from the update.
More Accessibility for Tourists and Casual Users Planned
Alexandra Diessner, MVG’s Head of Sales, noted that further improvements are coming later this year. In the fall, the app will allow ticket purchases without requiring prior registration, using either Apple Pay or Google Pay. This change is designed to make access to Munich’s public transport system easier for occasional riders and tourists, who often seek fast and uncomplicated payment methods.
With these updates, MVG aims to enhance flexibility, streamline service access, and meet the growing demand for digital convenience in urban transit.
