Munich District Committee Demands Better Marking for Delivery Zones

The designation of specific zones for delivery services and their marking with special signage are intended to relieve parking pressure in Schwanthalerhöhe.

The District Committee believes that poor marking of these areas is the cause of their ineffectiveness.

Schwanthalerhöhe – A truck delivering beverages to a business on Ligsalzstrasse is badly positioned, with its rear end encroaching on the intersection. In fact, there is a special loading zone for it directly opposite the establishment. However, it is blocked by several parked cars. The District Committee intends to improve the situation in a simple way: the city authorities should designate these zones more clearly and distinctly—ideally with road markings on the pavement and an additional sign.

District Council Concludes: No-Parking Signs are Insufficient for Designating Courier Zones

The current signs, which only prescribe a limited no-stopping restriction for a specific time, are insufficient. “People do not understand the reason. But if there is a symbol or the text ‘Delivery Zone,’ drivers will know why they cannot park there, which will increase acceptance of the no-stopping restriction,” says initiator Manuela Diepolder (Green Party). This would also save transport control employees from arguments.

What the Mobility Department Thinks of the Schwanthalerhöhe District Council’s Idea

“We arranged for the creation of loading zones about two and a half years ago to prevent intersections and sidewalks from being constantly blocked by vehicles.” However, the positive effect is marginal, the district politician notes. The Mobility Department stated that it only applies pictograms on main streets as a matter of principle. On secondary streets, this would be considered on an individual basis.
