Munich — On Monday morning (November 17), a 68-year-old driver lost control of his car in Munich, mounting the sidewalk. The incident resulted in a head-on collision with a 33-year-old pedestrian, who sustained severe injuries. The man suffered, among other things, a serious traumatic brain injury and required emergency surgery.
Driver Lost Control While Turning
The traffic accident occurred on Monday, November 17, 2025, at approximately 9:17 a.m. at the intersection of Herzogstraße and Schleißheimer Straße. According to a police press release, the 68-year-old Munich resident was driving his Mercedes west on Herzogstraße. As he attempted to turn left onto Schleißheimer Straße towards the city center, the driver suddenly accelerated and subsequently lost control of the vehicle. The car then mounted the western pedestrian and bicycle path on Schleißheimer Straße.
The Mercedes collided head-on with the 33-year-old Munich resident, who was on the sidewalk. Other pedestrians were able to avoid being hit by jumping out of the way. The car only came to a stop after traveling 30–40 meters.
Injured Man Unconscious – Required Urgent Surgery
The 33-year-old pedestrian sustained a severe head injury, among other injuries, and remains unconscious, according to police. Rescue services had to transport him to a hospital, where he underwent emergency surgery.
Based on the current investigation, police are treating the incident as a tragic accident. There is no indication of intentional action. The material damage to the Mercedes amounts to several thousand euros. A road sign was also damaged. The Munich traffic police are conducting a further investigation into the circumstances of the incident.
