According to the fire department, the 34-year-old woman and the baby’s father were on their way to a hospital after she had gone into labor. However, as they were on the A95 motorway near the Bavarian capital, the birth began, reported the German Press Agency (dpa).

When emergency responders arrived at the specified location on the A95 near Munich, heading toward Garmisch, they found the mother and baby already in the family’s car. The child had already been born and was healthy. The father had acted as a midwife and directed the emergency services to the scene, the fire department reported.
A pediatric emergency doctor and the neonatal emergency service took care of the baby, while the emergency medical team tended to the mother. A fire engine secured the scene during this time. Afterward, all vehicles proceeded together to the hospital originally intended for the birth.
