A technical inspection uncovered significant damage to multiple track switches, prompting an immediate suspension of train traffic between Munich Central Station and Holzkirchen. The interruption affects not only daily commuters but also numerous leisure travelers heading toward the Alps.
According to an official statement from Bayerische Regiobahn (BRB), all rail services on the route between Munich and Holzkirchen have been suspended due to the technical failure at the switching facility. The disruption impacts BRB’s Oberland and Chiemgau-Inntal networks, as well as lines operated by S-Bahn München.
Bus Replacement Services Deployed
In response, S-Bahn München implemented temporary measures and began organizing a replacement bus service between Giesing and Holzkirchen. BRB train lines RB 55, RB 56, RB 57, and RB 58 are now terminating early in Holzkirchen. From there, the trains continue along their respective branches toward the Oberland region or the Mangfall Valley.
The extent of the switch damage has not yet been disclosed, and there is currently no official estimate on when full rail operations will resume. Authorities have advised travelers to expect delays and check schedules frequently for updates.
