World War II Bomb Defused at Hof Central Station as Train Services Gradually Resume

A World War II aerial bomb was discovered on Sunday in the track area of Hof Central Station in Upper Franconia. In the early evening, a special disposal unit successfully defused the unexploded ordnance. Rail services are now being gradually restored.

According to the city of Hof, the bomb, weighing approximately 50 to 75 kilograms, was safely defused without incident.

Explosive Ordnance Disposal Team Handles Bomb On-Site

A bomb disposal squad from Munich carried out the defusing operation directly at the site. The unexploded device was secured and transported away without complications. The safety perimeter, which had been established around the area, was lifted after the completion of the operation. Approximately 1,000 local residents had to evacuate their homes for several hours as a precaution. Eva Döhla, Mayor of Hof and member of the SPD party, thanked the more than 100 emergency personnel for their professional and smooth execution of the task. She emphasized that the incident had demonstrated how well the city’s emergency plans functioned.

Train Services Restart After Complete Suspension

The bomb had been found on Sunday morning during track work by Deutsche Bahn in the area of Hof Central Station. For safety reasons, all train services were completely halted for several hours. Deutsche Bahn reported that some trains had started running again, but passengers should still expect delays and cancellations as operations slowly return to normal.
