The incident occurred in the early hours of Saturday, May 31, and was reportedly linked to the teenager attempting to smoke despite a building-wide smoking ban.
Risky Smoking Attempt Leads to Dangerous Fall
According to police, the teenager climbed out of a window onto a narrow ledge in an effort to smoke a cigarette without breaking the hostel’s no-smoking policy. He was noticeably intoxicated at the time of the incident. While balancing on the ledge, the student lost his footing and plunged approximately seven meters to the ground.
Multiple Fractures but No Life-Threatening Injuries
Emergency services confirmed that the teenager sustained serious injuries in the fall, including fractures to his arms, legs, and facial bones. However, his condition was not considered life-threatening.
Quick Action from Witnesses and Emergency Responders
Fellow students and adult chaperones who witnessed the fall responded immediately, providing first aid and calling emergency services. Paramedics arrived promptly and administered emergency care before transporting the injured teen to a Munich hospital for further treatment.
In response to the emotional trauma experienced by witnesses, a crisis intervention team was deployed to provide psychological support to the affected students and staff.
Police Rule Out Foul Play
The Munich criminal police have launched an investigation into the incident. Initial findings indicate there is no evidence of third-party involvement. Investigators secured traces at the scene in order to reconstruct the events leading up to the fall. The inquiry is ongoing.
