As it does every year, the center of Friedberg will transform into a vibrant celebration zone this Fat Tuesday. From the traditional carnival parade and live music to the legendary party in the underground parking garage, there is something for everyone. Following last year’s turnout of 13,000 visitors, another massive crowd is expected. Due to the festivities, temporary parking shortages, traffic diversions, and public transport schedule changes will be in effect.
Road Closures and Detours in Friedberg and Surrounding Areas
The city center will be closed to traffic starting at 12:00 PM, while Marienplatz will be shut down as early as 7:00 AM. Additionally, from 11:00 AM, the intersection of Aichacher Straße, Münchener Straße, and Ludwigstraße will be impassable due to setup work for the underground garage party. Starting at 12:00 PM, the “West” garage and streets along the parade route will also close; this primarily affects Aichacher Straße, Münchener Straße, Bahnhofstraße, Bauernbräustraße, and Ludwigstraße, as well as adjacent side alleys.
Traffic will be diverted around the city center. A detour route has been organized from the B300 via Afrastraße, Bressuire Ring, Wiffertshausen, the AIC 10 district road, Kreuzäcker, and Bosener Straße back to the B300. Most main roads will reopen for traffic around 6:00 PM. Only Ludwigstraße will remain closed between Bahnhofstraße and Münchener Straße until 9:00 AM on Wednesday, February 18. Parking is available at Friedberg Station, the castle parking lot on the B300, near Herrgottsruh, and at Gerberwiese below the hill.
Public Transport: Getting to Friedberg on Tuesday
Those wishing to avoid the search for parking can reach Friedberg via public transport. To facilitate this, temporary stops have been organized on both sides of the B300 at the Zeppelinstraße level. Trains from Augsburg or Aichach arrive at Friedberg Station every 30 minutes. From the Park+Ride Friedberg West, a shuttle bus (Line 201) will run every 15 minutes toward the station starting at 12:00 PM. Alternatively, Lines 200 and 202 run every 15 to 30 minutes via the B300 to Zeppelinstraße.
From the northern districts, Lines 202 or 210 also serve Zeppelinstraße or the Friedberg-Ost stop. Buses on Lines 207 and 208 travel from the south to Münchener Straße. From Paar and Harthausen, transport runs to Feuchtmayrstraße. For return trips after 7:00 PM, using the shared call-taxi (Sammeltaxi) is recommended.
